Long a question for European nations, at the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, it becomes an issue of growing significance for the United States. Join us with our friends at Camarillo United Methodist Church, Mount Cross Lutheran Church and St. Columba’s Episcopal Church as these three congregations present an interdenominational symposium featuring Dr. Colleen Windham-Hughes, AVP of Mission & Identity at Cal-Lutheran University speaking on the state of Christianity and the future of the Church. Ventura County Interfaith Friendship Project Mixer

Thanks to a generous Lisle International Seed GrantPeace Catalyst International, and the Ventura County Interfaith Community are pleased to announce the Ventura County Interfaith Friendship Project which seeks to build friendships amongst faith communities in Ventura County.

To inaugurate the project, Peace Catalyst International and the Ventura County Interfaith Community invite you to join us at 4:00 PM on May 15th at Padre Serra Parish, 5205 Upland Road, Camarillo for a delicious catered meal and an opportunity to mix it up with your neighbors of different faiths.

Peace Catalyst International and the Ventura County Interfaith Community are hosting an interfaith mixer where you will build relationships with individuals of other faiths while enjoying a catered halal style Middle Eastern meal. A meat free dairy based meal will be available for our Jewish friends.

Rabbi Lotker’s Upcoming Classes

Rabbi Michael Lotker has just announced two upcoming classes to take place Wednesday evenings, July 14th through August 25th  at 7PM Pacific Time. The classes are free of charge. “Introduction to Kabbalah” (July 14, 21 & 28)

In our 3 week exploration of the world of Kabbalah we will explore the simple (is it kabb-a-LAH or ka-BAL-ah?) to the deep (how does the interpretation of word echad in the Shema affect our understanding of God’s nature and our relationship with God).  We will address the history and practices of Kabbalah and have time for questions and discussion of this fascinating subject.   Our first class will be an Introduction to some of the key ideas of Kabbalah and to its interesting history.  Class #2 will introduce the central text of KabbalahThe Zohar which is a work of pseudepigrapha (don’t know what that means?  Come and find out!).  We will discuss the 10 Sefirot, the world of Gematria, the mystical names of God and more.  In the next class, we will explore Lurrianic Kabbalah, the Soul, Angels, Hasidim and focus on enhancing our own Jewish spirituality. 

“Children of Abraham:  Comparing Judaism, Christianity and Islam.” (August 4, 11, 18 & 25)

About half the people of the world worship the God of Abraham as members of faith traditions that trace themselves back 4000 years to this inspired individual.  In four classes, Rabbi Lotker will introduce these three faiths with special emphasis on where they are similar and where they differ.  We will read texts from the Hebrew Bible, the Christian Scripture and the Koran relating to the Garden of Eden, Abraham, Moses, and others to help understand the fascinating history and theology that shape our worlds to this day.  Differences in beliefs, historical origins and the reasons behind historical and current conflicts will be explored.  We will also take a detailed look at Holy Neighborhood of Jerusalem and the sacred sites to be found there.

Peace Catalyst International is excited to join with the Islamic Center of Ventura County to present an Iftar at 7:00 PM on April 24th. Virtual Interfaith March for Peace and Justice

VCIC will be participating in a virtual March for Peace and Justice on September 13th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. You can join us in eschewing hatred and oppression in the name of religion and in supporting freedom of worship and belief. Young Adult Event

If you’re a young adult between the ages of 18-29 we invite you to join us for the first ever Ventura County Young Adults event.

The event will take place at Golf N’ Stuff at 6 pm on December 12th. Bring yourself, a friend, and $15 for a fun night out!

We invite your family and friends to our Annual Thanksgiving Eve Service conducted by the Conejo Valley Interfaith Association, with music and speakers representing many local faith communities.  All,  especially youth and children, are welcome!

The event is a prayer service of diverse faiths and traditions, coming together in unity to give thanks for God’s generosity, and to provide help for our local needy and homeless brothers and sisters.  The Conejo Valley Interfaith Association supports Harbor House http://www.harborhouseto.org/ which will receive all voluntary contributions.
