Interfaith Roundtable

Please join us for the Interfaith Round Table on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Padre Serra Parish Center, 5205 Upland Rd. Camarillo, Ca. This group will engage in facilitator-led discussion on current issues confronting people of all faith paths. Individuals of all faiths (or none at all!) are encouraged to come and enter into the dialogue.

Upcoming meeting dates and topics:

  • December 15, 2016 – The Generation of Entitlement: What do we all want now?
  • January 19, 2017 – Hail to the Chief: How are we feeling about this presidency?

FEAST OF FAITHS

At Mount Cross Lutheran Church

The annual Feast of Faiths, a gathering of individuals from various religions who discuss their beliefs with those of other faiths informally over dinner, will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday, November 6th at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 102 Camino Esplendido, Camarillo, CA 93010-1717. The concept of service is the theme for this Feast of Faiths.

Members of various religions – Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, LDS, Pagan, and Quaker – will share a meal. The purpose of the dinner is to help create understanding between people of different religions. Halal-style and vegetarian food will be served.

Suggested donation of $20 if received by October 20th, or $25 at the door. Student suggested donation of $10 before October 20th, or $15 at the door.

Labor Day Harvest of Love

People from diverse faith traditions, including Muslims, Christians and Jews, and their friends will join together to harvest fresh vegetables for Food Share on Labor Day 2016 at the Abundant Table Farm in Camarillo.  After the morning harvest we will celebrate together with a farm fresh picnic on the farm!  Our intention is to join together as neighbors to create positive relationships in our community through service, generosity and appreciation of our shared earth and its bounty, as well as those who labor throughout the food system.

Interfaith Forum – What does God say?

On March 17th, The Ventura County Interfaith Community in conjunction with California State University Channel Islands Campus Interfaith presents a forum discussing What Do Major Religions Believe?

A panel of representatives from six different faiths will talk about their core message, as it is presented in sacred scripture. Panelists will be drawn from available representatives of Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Quaker, Bahai’, Muslim, Mormon, Hindu, and Paganism.

Join us on March 17, 7:30-9:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1201 Paseo, Camarillo, CA.

Interfaith Roundtable Returns

The popular interfaith roundtable resumes on April 21st after a brief break for the February and March forums. Join us at the Santa Cruz Room at the Padre Sera Center at 5205 Upland Rd., Camarillo, California.

This group, which meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM, engages  in facilitator-led discussion on current issues confronting people of all faith paths. Individuals of all faiths (or none at all!) are encouraged to come and enter into the dialogue on how religion and spirituality interface with current events. Some of the topics that we’ll be addressing in the near future are:

  • April 21, 2016 – Suicide and religion: who has the right?
  • May 19, 2016 – Why do Black Lives Matter when all lives matter?
  • June 16, 2016 – Bullies in America: how do we as religious and/or spiritual people meet the challenge of reducing bullying in the United States?

 

Interfaith Picnic

Please save the date: March 12th from noon until 4:00 PM, we will be gathering with our friends from the Islamic Center of Conejo Valley at the Lakeside Pavilion, Conejo Creek North Park, 1379 E. Janss Rd., Thousand Oaks for a “Family of Abraham Picnic.” The pavilion is located just behind the Thousand Oaks Library. Food will include burgers, barbecue chicken, hot dogs, snow cones, and popcorn. And, there will be a variety of activities for young and old … slides and bouncers, face painting, toy balloons, and much more. The University Series™: Who Speaks for God?

The Ventura County Interfaith Community and California State University Channel Islands Campus Interfaith in conjunction with The University Series™ present a forum that addresses the topic: What Do Major Religions Believe? Who Speaks for God?

A panel of representatives from six different faiths will talk about their respective organizational structures and the role their leaders play in their faith communities. Who is in charge? How are decisions made? Where does authority lie? Panelists will be drawn from available representatives of Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Quaker, Bahai’, Muslim, Mormon, Hindu, and Pagan faiths.

Ventura County Interfaith Community presents at Catholic University

Once again, the Ventura County Interfaith Community will be presenting two forums at the Catholic University. In the first one on February 24th at 7:30 PM, panelists from a variety of religions will explore the topic “Living Spiritually in a Material World.” In the second forum at 7:30 PM on March 10th, panelists will present their views on “Booze, Tattoos, and other Taboos.” We hope you’ll join us for one or both of these forums at the Padre Serra Parish Center, 5205 Upland Rd, Camarillo, CA 93012.
